La Cumbre Taqueria
Raul & Michaela Duran and son Edward · Mission District, SF · since 1967
Anthony Bourdain recognized The Duran family creators of the "Mission Style Burrito" turning a simple taqueria into local legend, that thrives until this day.
the founder story
The legendary, historic birthplace of the world-famous Mission-style burrito, founded by Mexican immigrants Raul and Michaela Duran in 1967. La Cumbre became a full taqueria in 1972. The husband-and-wife duo famously scaled up the traditional burrito into a massive, portable assembly-line feast to satisfy hungry workers. Now managed by their son Edward Duran, La Cumbre continues to honor its fifty-year legacy by sourcing directly from multi-generational family farms to plate up iconic char-broiled chicken, premium carne asada, and classic over-stuffed burritos built to bring legendary, authentic soul to major Silicon Valley corporate events.
